Luke 1:13-17.
At the time that Zacheria received the message of the angel Gabriel. it was during the time when it was the turn of turn of the course of Abia of whom Zacheria belonged to officiate at the temple in Jerusalem of which duty being one of then was to offer incence in the morning and evening. it was during the time when Zacherias was alloted to offer the incence in the Holy Place in the temple when the Archangel Gabriel appeared to Zacherias and Zacharias seeing the angel was afraid but the angel ressured assured Zacarias and told hi that he would have a son but Zacharias did not believe the angel due to his and his wifes age which was past that of child bearing and as a concequence of Zacherias not believing was struck dumb and was unable to speak until his son was born and called hi John.
Gabriel alos told Zacherias that his son would be filled with the Holy Ghost ( Holy Spirit ) from his mothers womb and that he John would prepare the people of Israel to God Luke 1:16.( and many others reconciled to God. Luke 3:14.) and turn them away from their sins etc and turn to and back to Father God repectfully and baptised through immersion in the River Jordan as a baptism for the remission of sins. In doing so through the preaching of John in the wilderness and baptising he was preparing the way for those who heard and were baptised to believe and accept Jesus the son of God who would come preaching, teaching, healing and ministering to those in need etc. and would Himself as the ultimate sacrifrifice for the sins of all, of which the sacrifice would be once and for all fulling the ceremonial law, that through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross at Calvery the cermonial law would be abolished in such away that allwould hav e access to Father God through believing and accepting His son Jesus and all that he had accomplished at Calevery Matthew 27:50-51a. I hasten to add that the civil and moral laws were not abolished at that time and are stilll needed to be respected and obeyed through the help and comfort and leading and guidig of the of the Holy Spirit ( also many countries and governements are founded on the civel and to some extent the moral laws to Be foundfrom Exodus to Deuteronomy ( the later or rather the moral laws are sadly becoming disrespected and changed and even in some instances overturned to some degree ), who would come 40 days after the ascension of Jesus who would ascend back to His Father God in Heaven. Mark 16:19; Luke 24:50-51; Acts1:9. after having risen 3 days after his crucifixtion and death and burial Matthew 28:9; Mark 16:9, to be with and to be with and dwell with those who beleive and have accepted Jesus as the son of God and all that He Jesus has accomplished at Calvery, and John the Baptist wsas born and raised and filled with the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit) from his mothers womb to prepare the people to turn back to God through as mentioned above his preaching and teaching and baptism for repenctance for which he John was prepared form his conception. Luke 1:13-17.
1b What was to be the nature of Jon the Baptists greatness. Compare verses 76-77.
John the Baptist would be filled with the Holy Ghost ( the Holy Spirit ) from his mothers womb. Luke 1:15c.
Luke 1:15a. For he shall be great in the site of the Lord.
15c. And He shall be filled with the Holy Ghost from his mothers womb.
Compare Luke 1:76. And then, child shall be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go0 before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
77. To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of thir sins.
see also Luke 3 2-4; Isaiah 40:3-4; and John 1:19-24.
Luke 3:2-4.
2 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
4 As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Isaiah 40:3-4.
3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
John1:19-24.
19 And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
20 And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.
22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
24 And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
Especially verse 23.
An Insight from Isaiah 40:4
Isaiah 40:4
4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
When it says every valley will be exalted, could possibly mean that Father God in His time and way those of His kingdom who are poor needy and of humble heart ect. will be exalted, and the mountains and hills subsequently could mean those who are perhaps of a high position in society and of a proud heart and mind etc. be brought low, and through Father Gods ways and time will bring them down, and in doing so many will through the help and comfort of the Holy Spirit be reconciled unto Father God through believing and accepting His son Jesus and all that He has accomplihed at Calvary on behalf of all etc.
And those who are crooked could mean that those who are of a criminal intent would through believing and accepting Father Gods son Jesus and all that He has accomplished at Calvary, would turn from their crooked ways and through the help, leading and guidance etc. of the Holy Spirit would lead staight and godly lives.
And those of a rough disposition but not necessarily crooked through the help, leading and giudance etc. of the Holy Spirit would become plain and of a kindly disposition.
